“There is a class of walkers who share a certain camaraderie. We are not drunks, tramps, hookers, cops, priests, party-goers or night-shift workers; we are merely outsiders. On the rare occasions when we meet we acknowledge one another with a tiny tilt of the head, or a quick nod; but each of us carries his or her own solitude.… Read the rest
The Oban Inn is still operating as a spa and hotel/ resort. But, you won’t see the old building. It was destroyed in a fire, as reported below.
I was staying at a hotel (not this one) which caught on fire. We had just fallen asleep and I don’t remember how late it was. We woke up because there was a lot of traffic in the hallways and I could hear people knocking on the doors.… Read the rest
I haven’t seen this tunnel myself and I’m skeptical about anything being haunted. Still, having a history like this isn’t going to leave a place unmarked, or unremarked upon. Any old train tunnel is going to be dark and too many are unused these days. Not all of them have children crushed by rocks and trains colliding into each other.… Read the rest
What happened to Alan L. Brown who ran the websites for OntarioPlaques and TorontoPlaques? http://www.ontarioplaques.com/ and http://torontoplaques.com/
He has disappeared and the sites are gone. He had other sites, intended for school children mainly, and the two sites about historical plaques in Ontario. (First Ontario and then another site to focus on Toronto). But all gone now.… Read the rest
These images are from the Realtor (real estate site). I have taken photos of the Owen Sound Court House before, but only the outside. Now it is for sale. Priced to sell, low, because it needs a fortune spent on it. If you look at the listing (while the link is still there) you can see the rotting wood from water damage in the roof.… Read the rest
First, I found his site, Ontario Exploration 101, via the Curlie listing which had come up as a broken link to check. The link works, if you go past the web browser warnings of gloom and doom. People may miss all his posts because they start from the navigation bar, under the word “more…”. Not the navigation people are used to.… Read the rest

For a pledge of $77 Canadian you can get a copy of the book sent to you. They expect to have it ready to mail out by Christmas this year, 2021. You can also just donate to sponsor the project.
Anywhere in Europe will have more, or at least older, places to explore than Ontario. It would be nice to see them.… Read the rest
Somehow I often catch people at a crossroads in their life. This time Jerm IX, Jeremy Bertrand, is evolving from his old persona and into something else. Leaving much of the old Jerm IX behind. I found his note about this on his Facebook account, the day after he posted it.
I haven’t especially tried to find him before this.… Read the rest
It was biting, bitterly, cold and windy at this little cemetery, called the Kinghorn Cemetery. Located north of Toronto. I like the gravestones with flowers, or something else unique and pretty but not especially religious. This cemetery seemed to have more stone flowers than most, considering the small size of the place.
