I looked at the photos of barns in this post. To me, most of them are inactive, not actually abandoned. They are still maintained, enough to not be falling down, don’t look salvaged for barn boards, etc. So, they didn’t really seem abandoned or derelict. Probably someone else would consider any barn not actively used to be abandoned.… Read the rest
Have you ever seen fights of engineering with remote controlled robots? There are TV shows like Robot Wars and Battle Bots. Robot Wars talks more about the engineering and construction of the robots.
Understanding how the height, or complete flatness being low to the ground works. Figuring out whether a swinging blade of some kind works to fend off other bots.… Read the rest
First, I found his site, Ontario Exploration 101, via the Curlie listing which had come up as a broken link to check. The link works, if you go past the web browser warnings of gloom and doom. People may miss all his posts because they start from the navigation bar, under the word “more…”. Not the navigation people are used to.… Read the rest
This house I only photographed from the road. The access to it was on private property, not abandoned at all. I’m kind of shy and like many people this past year, I’ve been feeling less than social and exuberant at the idea of being friendly. So I didn’t take photographs from the driveway at the house of the property owner.… Read the rest
One of my photos was included in an article about abandoned houses, on a site called Art & Home.
They added it from Pinterest, known for being a great source of photographs (I’m joking). So there is no attribute or link to me.
It bugs me that I don’t seem to have my original image file for this photo (and most of the others from this house) any more.… Read the rest
I tried to find the photographer, Kevin McElheran online. No luck, just more abandoned or broken links. I did find a description which was posted with another copy of the same photo, on two other sites. So, some background information about how the photo was taken. But, I still don’t know what happened to Kevin McElheran from Calgary, Alberta.… Read the rest

When he was a kid, his bedroom walls were covered in maps. He was fascinated with exploring Nova Scotia, so once he travelled all the roads he could track down in his community, his attention shifted to the roads that weren’t clearly marked.
Maclean’s posted – 11 ghost towns to see before they’re completely gone, in 2012. So it is not a fresh list. There were two in Ontario. I think there are two Nicholson, Ontario’s. I will look into both of these and see what I can find out.
A house that will be demolished, eventually. Not far outside of Barrie, Simcoe County, Ontario.
I found this post awhile ago, about abandoned places around the world. This was the only place in Canada posted. I haven’t seen it but the photo of the old train really makes me wish to see more of this place. I’m sure you can find more photos online, try Google Maps and the big urban exploration sites.… Read the rest
